This beautiful bright coloured chromolithographic plate originates from the first edition of an antique atlas describing all butterflies, caterpillars and moths in the Netherlands in the early 1900's.

 

This 109-year-old print is in excellent condition and has 14 detailed illustrations of moths and larva, including the Sloe emperor and Tau emperor moths. 

 

The numbers below correspond with the numbers on the plate:

1. Gastropacha quercifolia L. The lappet moth.
2. Endromis versicolora L. Endromis moth.
3. Dendrolimus pini L. Pine-tree lappet moth.
4. Saturnia spini Schif. Sloe emperor moth.
5. Aglia tau L. Tau emperor moth.
6. Drepana falcataria L. Pebble hook-tip moth.
7. Cilix glaucata Sc. Chinese character moth.

 

The pre-cut high quality matboard has a white top layer with a subtle texture, and is acid-free, protecting the print.
